I cannot help but wonder how running the Adidas King of the Road race would be like. I have only been back to running since October last year and when I found out about the King of the Road race 2008, I was too late to register for it. I hear the race is a prestigious one. I hear it is a race joined by a lot of athletes to show off their skill and speed. I hear it is a race where execution and organization is near perfect. I hear the race lets you take home a great souvenir namely, the singlet.
I die of envy every time I see runners on the road bragging out their King of the Road singlets. Not only do they feel and look great, they also signify how great the runner is for having completed the King of the Road race. I can’t help but wonder how it would feel like to wear such. I can’t help but dream about it.
Do I stop dreaming this year? Do I stop wondering? Do I get to join King of the Road this year?
Based on Takbo.ph, this year’s King of the Road is scheduled on October 25. The race couldn’t be more perfectly nested among other big races don’t you think? A week before this run, is the Quezon City International Marathon. I want to join this. On the same weekend that the King of the Road race is happening, Subic International Marathon is also firing off their starting guns. I will join this too just for the fact that you’ll be able to run on the SCTEX. A week after this, my come back run from last year is happening again, the Shake Rattle and Run race. I’ll start a tradition by joining this every year because with out this run, I wouldn’t have been able to get back and get hooked into running again.
Those are three very eventful weeks will surely be packed and will surely generate a lot of participants. Big decisions must be made on what race to join. I think the only way I’d be able to join this is if they move it to another date. I can’t pass up the other races lined up and I can’t really force my body to run a full marathon on October 24 in Subic and then go back to Manila to run King of the Road on October 25. That is just plain crazy.
I got some information that the guys oraganizing the race are considering moving the Adidas King of the Road race to the first or the second week of December this year. Scheduling wise, I would love this. It would mean that I’ll be able to join the QC Marathon, Subic Marathon, and the Shake Rattle and Run race with out me losing the chance of passing up the King of the Road race again. Having a good Christmas themed run would be great too. It would be a great way to cap of the year. I think a lot of runners would be able to join this. I love running. People love to run. Having this later in the year and not having it coincide with other races would be a great idea.
