Running: Keeping within 70 – 75% of my Maximum Heart Rate

After my not so amazing 5 minutes beyond my personal best finish last Sunday at the Autoreview run, I went back to running at 70-75% of my heart rate to build up some endurance and to be able to rank up some mileage.

Monday night, a day after the 10k fun run, my legs and thighs were still sore from the run. I most probably didn’t do enough stretching after the run. Even with an ice cold bath after the run, my legs and thighs still hurt. It was a chore going up stairs and torture going down them. Despite the slight soreness I still ran. I read somewhere that doing recovery runs, as the name implies, improves and hastens recovery so I treated this run as sort of one. I ran for recovery.

I ran 7k last Monday night. Did it in 55 minutes at an average heart rate to 140 bpm and an average pace of about 7 minutes per kilometer. It was way inside my 70-75% limits and I felt accomplished for doing it.

I woke up the next day with slightly less sore legs and thighs. Looks like my recovery run didn’t go as planned but I am happy that the soreness was lessened.

Tuesday night, two days after the 10k run, my legs and thighs were still a little sore but not as sore as they were the day before. I planned to do another slow run and do it I did. I only ran 5k. Ran for 40 minutes at an average heart rate of 134 bpm and an average pace of about 8 minutes per kilometer. I was again feeling accomplished for staying with in my planned limits.

What good does this do to me? I don’t know. They do say that your body burns stored fat when you exercise with in those limits. That might be one.

I might give my legs a break tonight. Might do an LSD on thursday.

Running: AutoReview Run

Last Sunday, May 24, 2009, AutoReview held a fun run for road safety and awareness. It was held in Mckinley Hill. The race was quite informal to say the least. Not much “serious” runners joined the race. It must have been because everybody was at TNF100. I hope they had a blast but I’m not saying I didn’t have fun last Sunday too.

I witnessed something for the first time in joining fun runs last Sunday. The organizers had the participants join an aerobics session to get them warmed up. It was a welcome addition to the program. Although I would have wanted to run to start earlier.

I ran the 10k to see if I was getting faster. I previously had a 10k personal best of 61 minutes. I planned on beating my personal best but came up short with a 65 minutes finish time. When I started the run, I really thought that I could beat my personal best. The run felt good. I conquered the hills pretty easily too. Beating my personal best will just have to wait. My next official 10k will be on June 7, the Mizuno infinity run. My friends came with me when I registered and they were urging me to join the 15k and not just the 10k. I’m happy I signed up for the 10k. I need to see if I’m getting any progress.

Back to doing speed 5k’s and semi LSD’s until June 7 for me. See you at the Infinity Run.

Subic International Triathlon 2009: Runners in Action

Probably the most joint breaking part of a triathlon, the 10 kilometer run. You’ve got to have good shoes, good form, and just enough strength and energy to finish the last part of the triathlon. These guys train for endurance and it really shows when they start running after the swim and the bike.

You can’t run with out good shoes. Here’s a runner sporting an Asics. Probably the one of the best running shoes out in the market right now.

We see Mizuno Wave series shoes right there.

You got to love the stride of this guy. He looks like he’s about to take off.

What’s good about these events is that you not only get to brag about you’re athletic capabilities but you also get to brag about fashion. Seeing Tessa Prieto at events like these is always a good sight.

Running: A Year From Now

action 2

A year from now, I will go back to and I will compete. I will conquer. I will triumph. I will be stronger.

I will look back at this photo and see how much I have improved. I will look back and see how much I have done in a year.

Next year will see a better me.

I’m still in awe from last weekend’s Triathlon that I shot. I was very envious with the athletes.

Next year, expect to see me racing along with them.

Subic International Triathlon 2009: The Women

Large part of the attraction last weekend(for me) were the women. Too bad I wasn’t able to take photos of their swim to bike transition. I hope I put them in perfect light with these photos. This just proves that not only men can be athletes. The female’s start earlier than the men at 630 am.

Team David’s Salon. The team was fantastic. Their female participants were still photogenic even after 1.5k swim, 40k bike and 10k run. It must have been because it was part of their training.

How can we ever forget about Team Fitness First.
